Funky flower

I have looked at every photo in our plant book, but can't find the name of this plant. Doesn't it look funky though!

PS Within two hours of posting this I have learned that it is a Grevillea (probably a G. Banksii) - thanks Annette and Kate!

Traffic signal box

Saturday Queenslander-day and Sunday traffic signal box-day? Perhaps. Here is another TSB, this one is in the City, on the corner of Albert St and Adelaide St. I really like it.

Queenslander

Last Saturday I showed you a Queenslander in our street - here's another one. I've decided to dedicate the postings on Saturday to Queenslanders. There are so many beauties in our neighbourhood.

Strelitzia

One of my favourite flowers; Strelitzia or Bird of Paradise. Often seen in parks and gardens here in Brisbane. This one is in the garden of the brand new building next to my workplace.

Sunset

It is almost winter here in the Southern hemisphere and getting dark when I leave work at 5 pm. Here is the view from Dutton Park Station, on Brisbane's southside, where I catch the train back home to Wooloowin. In the distance you can see the Great Dividing Range (click on the photo to enlarge it).

Traffic signal box

Among the many things I love in Brisbane are the painted traffic signal boxes. There are 900 of those in Brisbane and this is the one closest to our house. Anyone who resides in the city can apply to paint one - maybe I will, one day...

Queenslander

This glorious Queenslander is in our street - isn't it a beauty?
You can expect quite a few photos of Queenslanders on this blog, for I am totally in love with these charming houses, and there are lots of them in our neighbourhood (Brisbane's inner north). Read more about them on this excellent blog about art and architecture.

Butterfly

Welcome to my new photo blog. My intention is to make a photo everyday and post it here. I have a very cheap digital camera but nevertheless I want to try and capture inspirational images (to maybe use in my contemporary quilts) of things from my daily life here in Brisbane, Australia - or wherever else I may be.

The first photo is a butterfly that was kind enough to stay still while I grabbed my camera on the way home from school. Don't you just love his polka-dotted body!
